Portable construction

Hi guys,

Heres an article I found about portable architecture, showing how value was added to the level of permanence a building had, yet when you look back in history most building were portable and temporary. the article also shows how the portability idea can be adapted to the current world of architecture.

Interesting yeah, not sure how practical it is though.... but who knows.

Initial ideas

After churning out 3 thumbnail ideas, this was the idea i've decided to run with. It's portable, compact and can be transported behind a car. When packed up, it's dimensions are about 1800x1800x1200mm.

The images on the left show the progression of set up.

Adaptability is a concept I've explored, as it
seems simple enough to adapt a 'kit of parts 'minimal portable building according to different sites, weather and occasions.

Simply, the northern side opens up the unit to the surrounds. The eastern portion has a sofa/bed
making the served space, the west for the servant space (toilet, kitchen).

Problem encountered ..... i'm thinking the sofa orientation doesn't face the view. .... also there should be a view in closed up mode.

Here is the afternoon shade option.

Site analysis: arch2a minima

Here are a 2 sketches for the site analysis of our 2nd project for the year, minima. The site was a location of our choice in or nearby the Deakin Uni Geelong Waterfront Campus. We chose the nature strip along the western side of the building (Gheringhap street). The sketches show morning shadow (9am) and general circulation paths and frequencies (plan) and the local elevations.
We threw around ideas on tree houses, the space between trunks, traffic etc.
